Catherine Gontier

Catherine Gontier is a multi-award-winning sculptor from France. Viewed from afar, or in a photograph, Gontier’s wire sculptures against a white wall can be easily mistaken for Chinese ink or even graphite drawings on paper. Her series called ‘Cabinet of Curiosities,’ which explores anatomy and form, traces and forges the shapes of flora, fauna and everyday objects. These fragile structures are either fixed to the wall or suspended in mid-air assimilating and harmonizing with their surroundings, as they oscillate between representation and abstraction, shape-shifting from fluidity to solidity.
