Harumi Foster

Harumi Foster was born in Japan and now resides in London. She graduated in 2014 from the Royal College of Art with a MA in Ceramics & Glass, having previously gained a BA in Art Practice from Goldsmiths and a degree in painting from Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia in Italy.

"I was born in one of the six oldest pottery centres in Japan, which has produced ceramics for over seven centuries. As most of the population in the town were involved with ceramic production, from a young age I learnt about ceramics as part of everyday life. My background in the study of fine art across Japan, Italy and London informs my approach to making, which includes both conventional and unconventional methods. I am interested in the coexistence of traditional ideas of ceramics with the experimental use of clay in an art context by using a range of different clays, materials and techniques."
